The general purpose of the
Bronte Country
website (which was launched in early 1997 - originally to promote the
Bronte Birthplace
in
Thornton)
is to provide information
(both directly, and through external links)
about the area of the West Yorkshire and East Lancashire Pennines
which is associated with the lives and works of the
Brontes,
and which is popularly known as
"Bronte Country".
This area includes the villages of Thornton in the City of Bradford (where the Bronte Sisters were born, and the village of Haworth (where they lived and wrote their classic novels - including "Jane Eyre" and "Wuthering Heights").
The Bronte Country website also includes information about places to stay in the area (including hotels, guest houses and self catering accommodation) as well as places to eat and links to books and other products about Haworth, Bronte Country and the Brontes.
The success of the Bronte Country website reflects a broad interest in the area and the writings of the Bronte Sisters as seen at the international level, and has led to several "spin off" projects, including "mini sites" covering more details on Haworth, Bradford and Saltaire (an industrial village just outside Bradford which has recently been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO) - as well as the development of associated (but separately maintained) websites for The Yorkshire Dales, The North York Moors and the Yorkshire Coast.
If you are interested in finding out more about the Bronte Country project, please visit the main Bronte Country website:
Alternatively, you can contact Eagle Intermedia via the contact page of the main company website.
Appropriate feedback - including comments and suggestions for improvement - will be most gratefully received.
